Hotel Cap St Jacques

This weekend I have been to the beach and stayed in an hotel called Cap St Jacques supposed to be a 4 stars one, service and everything else was absolutely pathetic, this inspired me to draw this little presentation ads in case anybody would like to have fun in there!

Dancing dog

Hi there!

here is an attempt to "gimpcolor" one of my drawing, I usually use markers (Copics, AD etc...) for my colors but I bought a moleskine sketch book which is great in term of paper quality/hand feel and drawing comfort but literally drinks the inks and therefore inapt to makers, this is why I felt it would be a good occasion for me to work more on some fine black inking and/or digital colored sketches. This is interesting but I think I prefer the analog way even tough I love digital+analog coloring combination as I did in a previous post.

Shoe Making break

Hi,

I have been busy for a while as I flew to London to attend a traditional shoemaking course in August and spent september at doing shoes in my house as in my free time to practice while all the good processes aught by the friendly shoemakers James and deborah from Carre Ducker were still fresh in my head.

This does not mean I haven't drawn as I did a lot of research sketches before to launch myself in the adventurous 70 hours process which require a pair of hand-sewn shoes.
I realize that is always good to learn something new in life as I am a former leather good and as an absolute shoe lover this quite made sense to me. 1

Here are some preparaiton sketches and the following the shoes I made.

Moleskine leather cover

Hi,

I have designed and made myself a Moleskine leather cover using the hand dying technic again as I did with the phone cases here and here.

Here is the design I did to understand roughly how I will make it.

I made the cover for a Moleskine sketch, the first I buy as I was using Moleskine plain before and I have been super disappointed when I realized the paper was absolutely not working with markers, it literally drinks the ink and the results are absolutely awful, I do not know what to do with it now, that's quite a shame because I loved the paper and I got a beautiful leather cover now...

Here are some pictures of the finish product.

New hand-made leather cases

Hi there,

I have just completed two lovely leather phone cases and experimented a process to transfer ink in the leather and it seemed to work pretty well, again the leather is hand/hand stitched, 100% hand-made.

Two new phone cases, one for Iphone 4 and one for HTC wildfire.
Leather edges finishing detail, lining is made of lamb with a natural finish.

Hand stitching detail.

1st rendering test with the Gimp

I have been trying to render a Doodle I had made in my moleskine and found that it could be quite an interesting alternative to the analog way, I am not yet really good at it and need more practice but I am quite please with the result as this took me like 15 minutes.

Here is the doodle right from the scanner:

And here the Gimped version

In case you did not know, The Gimp is a free image manipulation program which is quite powerful and it is available for Mac and Windows users you can get it here http://www.gimp.org/ it is a very interesting alternative to Photoshop and some peoples even use them both as they find them complementary.

Phone case

Here is a phone case I designed, nothing really exciting in term of shape or concept actually, that's why I decided to "antiguish" the leather to make the whole thing a bit more interesting.

Following the design is the finish product I made using hand-dyed calf crust.

shoe design #2

hi there,

and yes after the bag designs the shoe designs, I find it quite interesting in the sense the shape from one model to another is practically the same especially for dress shoes which must be a bit formal, the main thing which changes is the shape of the toe box, therefore most of the designer work is to show how the leather parts are going to be sewn together and what will be their shapes to achieve a nice and elegant result.
Also shoe is a very good proportion exercise for people who like to draw as it is something we are all familiar with, it is easy to notice ourselves whether it is completely out or rather correct.

Shoe design

I have decided to draw something a bit different than bags, but I still stick with leather stuffs.

Bags #6

Bag design 3 (video)

Hi there,

Today I had some spare time and decided to make a Video so here it is, I apologize for the quality I did it with the built-in camera of my macbook and feel free to advice me if you know what type of equipment would be suitable to do sketching shorts.
I will upload a scan of the sketch when I have a minute and a scanner with me.

Ho yes set the video quality at 480p this might be slightly better.

Bag designs 1

Hi,

In my professional life I am a bag maker and get much more involved into the technical aspect things than into the design process but of course I like to draw and like to make bags with leather and therefore this is quite an evidence to doodle bags or wallets for me.
